For the first Best Ambiance of 2007, I feature recent recordings that I missed on my year-end show from the previous week, and in the second hour of the program, play several excellent historical compilations and collections released in 2006. Also, the first hour of the show is a tribute to the influence of the recently departed musical giant - James Brown - on African music, with Afro-soul, Afro-beat, and Afro-funk, mostly from West Africa. The rare vinyl focus at 8PM features music from South Africa, from Miriam Makeba, Letta Mbulu, Caiphus Semenya, and Abdullah Ibrahim, all recorded while they were political refugees here in the United States, during the time of apartheid.
